Two Hill Country area high school students are the recipients of $40,000 worth of scholarships from The GVTC Foundation.

Zachary Albrecht, from Boerne Champion High School, is the winner of the Ritchie T. Sorrells Scholarship for Leaders and Alyssa Boggs, attending Smithson Valley High School, was selected for the Ola Armstrong scholarship. Both scholarships are worth $20,000 each. Zachary and Alyssa stood out from a pool of more than 90 total applicants, who were screened and reviewed by the New Braunfels Area Community Foundation (NBACF). A team of educators selected the final recipients.

Zachary impressed with his passion and leadership for the study and design of robotics. He’s credited for starting the first robotics club at Champion H.S. He also led an initiative to establish robotics classes at his school. Zachary plans to attend Abilene Christian University and major in Computer Science.

On her application, Alyssa demonstrated a long track record of community service at school and within her church. She also served as leader of the 2017 School Blood Drive. Alyssa is a member of the National Honor Society and is involved in numerous service projects. She’s targeting Texas A&M for her college studies, with a major in industrial distribution.

Since 2011, The GVTC Foundation has awarded $163,000 in scholarships to local high school students.
