This year, GVTC department teams submitted 18 entries for the cardboard kids SA campaign to generate attention for the annual child abuse prevention campaign.

According to CarboardKidsSA.com, In 2015, there were 4,941 confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect in Bexar County. The website also states that only 1 in 10 sexually abused children ever make an outcry, meaning thousands more children in and around San Antonio are victims of abuse, typically by someone the child knows, loves, and trusts.

To bring awareness to this incredibly urgent issue, ChildSafe created the Cardboard Kids Campaign. Cardboard Kids are 2-foot tall cardboard figures shaped like children that represent one of the thousands of children that are abused and neglected at the hands of adults in our community each year.

The organization partners will local businesses, clubs, organizations and individuals to create the Cardboard Kids. The GVTC Foundation’s Community Outreach Committee once again organized our participation.

“This year we had increased participation as some supervisors utilized this project as a team building opportunity,” Sonia Aguillon, The GVTC Foundation vice president, said.

Sonya Chapa, Communities in Schools, mentor coordinator was the guest judge for the entries.

Congrats to our Mapping Department for their 1st place winner, “Branch.” GVTC’s Cardboard Kids are now on display in businesses across the community. Help end child abuse and neglect today. Learn more about CardboardKidsSA.com.
